Welcome to the end — and the beginning.

Your part is done, and I cannot thank you enough for your input.

Now my job starts.

My goal is to write a book describing how the government your survey responses suggest you would want might actually work.

We have fantasy games and fantasy football teams. So, why don't we create our fantasy government? Let's describe what it would actually look like.

If we do it right, we can create something we could actually aspire to have, something worth working toward, and maybe we would actually want to work on it together instead of continuing our perpetual infighting.

And I think exploring the possibilities could be fascinating, enlightening, and full of hope.

So, what's next?

Well, I have to write the book I want to write. Then everything hinges on how well received the book is.

Writing this kind of book isn't a weekend project.

I'll be collecting survey responses until October 2027, and I hope to hear from thousands upon thousands of Americans. A few million would be even better!

If my hypothesis is correct and I find that we are more alike than we are different, then we can use the information I've gathered and create a game plan around which we can consolidate our efforts for change.

Whatever happens next will depend on the will of the people. If enough of us really want change, then we can create the change we want. The determining factor will be how many people can come together and agree.

So please spread the word. Encourage your friends, family, coworkers, and especially people who feel their voices haven't been heard to take the survey.

Meanwhile, there's a lot more to explore than these first 23 questions could possibly cover. And I'd love your help.

Now, I'd like to invite you to join The Next Level and actually participate in shaping the final text of my book.

The Next Level is a free, interactive weekly newsletter where we'll work together to put some flesh on the bones of the government we're imagining. It is also a platform to have your voice heard and your ideas considered.

Here's how it works.

Each week, I'll introduce an idea or two and ask for your thoughts. The following week, I'll share what everyone had to say, introduce another subject, and we'll keep building.

And between issues, I'll be writing the book.

This will take about a year.

I know that's a long time, and I understand that some people will lose interest along the way. But I hope you'll hang in there.

And if you disagree with something I propose, I especially want to hear from you. We're not trying to prove anyone right or wrong. We're trying to discover what might actually work for all of us and bring us together. I admit, I don’t have all those ideas, so I need your help.

I do need your email address to keep the conversation going, but it will be stored securely and used only for correspondence about this project. Your original survey answers will remain anonymous.

A closing thought...

We spend an extraordinary amount of time expressing dissatisfaction with the government we have.

I'd like to see what happens if we spend some of that time imagining the government we want.

Not a Republican government. Not a Democratic government.

OUR government.

A government built around the hopes, aspirations, and expectations of the people it is supposed to serve.

We will never agree on everything, I know. But I believe we'll discover we agree on far more than we've been led to believe.

And maybe, just maybe, we'll come up with something worth fighting for.
